My son is a Senior at Field and he started as a 9th grader during Covid. It was a difficult time to start at a new school but Field did a great job and he managed to make friends and have a decent 9th grade year. 10th--12th grade have been normal (no zoom school!) and he has had a great experience. The teachers are terrific, and this is a wonderful school if your child is creative, or a kid who wants to play sports but might be cut from teams at a school with more competitive sports. The school pays great attention to social... read more

The Field School is a hidden gem. The community is committed to ensuring the school thrives and this starts at the top with the Trustees, HOS and Administrative Leaders. While there are plans for short and long term goals and strategies, the school is on top of things and adapts and flexes to address internal and external challenges as needed. The faculty are an extension of the school's mission and have a strong vision for teaching and learning. They are experienced, compassionate, empathetic and committed to seeing student... read more

My son started Field in 6th grade and he’s now a senior, and I can’t say enough about how grateful we are for this school. I have watched my son grow into this confident, curious young man who cares about his community and the world. I credit Field for a lot of that. At Field, kids learn how to learn. They learn how to advocate for themselves, ask questions, and make sure they fully understand the subjects they’re studying. The thought and care that goes into crafting their inquiry and project-based curriculum is amazing. Th... read more

My daughter moved from a highly competitive DC private school to the Field School in 6th grade and she is now in 9th grade. The change has been the best move we have ever made for her. In fact, she regularly thanks us for “giving her Field.” The welcoming community, excellent head of school, dedicated and energetic faculty, creativity of experiential learning have reignited her joy of learning and she literally looks forward to returning to school every morning. The Field School offers an excellent education while allowing s... read more

Because we have moved around for work a bit, we have had exposure to many private schools. Field is a different, better model for education. Field has been able to bring the love of learning to our child, rather than focusing on achieving for achievement sake. Our child is as happy as we have ever seen her, and she is excited and energized to learn in school. Field focuses on the individual child and his/her learning style and teaches to that. As a result, our child feels understood, enjoys the process of education, and is e... read more

The Field School has been an excellent fit for our daughter. The combination of small class room size and truly caring teachers who approach material in engaging ways has made high school a very positive learning experience. We also appreciate that while the school is academically rigorous, it is not excessively homework heavy so that students have time to pursue sports and other extracurricular activities. There is a genuine sense of community at the school. Students are very supportive of each other -- whether that is root... read more

My 8th grader is in his second year at Field School and we couldn't be happier with the education he's receiving, the wonderful community and overall experience. I believe that this progressive school model is the future of education and that all traditional schools will eventually follow suit. There is no substitute for a hands on, project based education where children are inspired to think individually, create and innovate. As a parent I pinch myself each time I visit the school, attend an event, or speak with his teacher... read more

Field has been a gift for our two children, one who has graduated and one who currently attends. Our graduate is in college and credits his current academic success to his time at Field. He learned to enjoy writing, which he does a lot of in college, and for years he resisted math and anything math related, until Field. His teachers gave him room to approach the subject from a different point of entry and rethink concepts. Our children are very different learners, one neurotypical and one neurodiverse, and Field has worked f... read more

During their time at Field my daughters have not only learned the traditional academics (math, history etc) but also critical thinking, problem solving and “real world “ applications/experiences — something that seems to be missing from other school’s curriculum. The teachers are extremely supportive of each student’s individual learning style and have a way of getting students to look deeper into a subject so as to not just memorize facts, but understand the concepts and/or impact/consequences something may have on them or ... read more
