The Field School has been a fantastic experience for my son. We are consistently impressed with the quality of the teaching -- the academics are rigorous but without creating a pressure cooker, and the focus on experiential learning prepares the students to navigate a changing world. Our daughter is a 9th grader and joined The Field School in 8th grade. The math and science programs stand out for their focus on depth of understanding. Teachers make sure students grasp concepts before moving on. The 8th grade service trip to Costa Rica was an important growth experience. Our daughter started at the Field School in 7th grade and was welcomed as though she'd started along with everyone else in 6th grade. She is genuinely happy and excited to go to school every day and talks about what she has learned with knowledge and enthusiasm. She also really enjoys her time participating in soccer, theater, Science Olympiad, and yearbook while having a robust social life within and outside of school. We are so thrilled that our creative, curious, intelligent daughter is at The Field School. Field really sees our daughter - the midterm reports from the teachers were incredibly illuminating and demonstrated just how well the teachers already knew her. More importantly though, the feedback that they provided was incredibly helpful and tangible so that our daughter was able to incorporate it for even better classroom results. Our child started Field as a freshman this year. Field orchestrates an impressive array of activities for new families. We got to meet other new parents several times across the spring and summer. Our child attended several events as well as a camp focused on executive function (for an additional fee) at the end of the summer which was fantastic. I love Field for three reasons: the approach to learning, the approach to grading, and the community. Learning: Field uses project-based learning, which is wonderful for any child, but especially effective for my quick-learner son. Traditional lectures-and-exams leave him a bit bored, but Field keeps him engaged and excited. Our priority is joyful learning rather than academic achievement, but at Field he’s getting both. The Field School provides a wonderful atmosphere of acceptance and rigorous academics for its students. I constantly admire that, as good as it already is, the Field teachers and administrators are constantly seeking to improve. I have three kids at the Field School---two are in the middle school, and one is in the high school. Each of my children is very different in personality and cognitive style. One's an artist, another is much more of a jock. The other one is something else. Each one of them fits in at Field and can find their own path forward. That's a big reason I chose the school.
