As someone who has worked here for many years and has witnessed the transition to a new head of school, I grateful to be part of this school. Field has stayed true to its mission of knowing every student and has stayed committed to its core values through the years. We have shifted to more Project Based Learning which has enhanced, even more so than before, the skills of collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking. With support from teachers, coaches and advisors, students continue to grow in their academic independ... read more
My daughter started in 9th grade at Field and it has been a great fit for her. During her first year, she was really struggling with kind of introspective writing assignment that she had struggled with at her N-8 school. She is just not wired for that kind of thinking. What was a true revelation was the school's response. It wasn't that she needed to work harder/better/stronger, but that the school needed to help the teacher figure out a better way to teach my daughter. That kind of attention to the variety of learners is a ... read more
The Field School is inclusive and supportive of every kid's capacity, creativity, and contribution. The result is a truly joyful community of students and teachers that elevates everyone. My daughter comes home every day feeling challenged and affirmed. Not only is she thriving, I get a jolt of positive energy every time I step foot on campus myself!
The Field School offers the best of education - small class sizes with teachers who love teaching and provide children with thought provoking topics of study. Rather than just teaching students particular subject matter (they do that too), Field teaches students how to learn, how to analyze data, how to problem solve and how to think critically. Field prepares students for college and beyond. Students get hands-on experiences with a 2 week internship each year teaching them to seek out experiences that interest them and offe... read more
The Field School is inspiring. We have two children at Field and are passionate about it. Field students are the ones with the confidence to ask questions, advocate for their learning and social needs, collaborate and have empathy in their engagement with the world and others. Field’s philosophy of “self-discovery, skills of mind and generosity of heart” is real. Our children eagerly engage with teachers who are always responsive to guide and challenge them, whether in the small classes (which are exceptional) or one-on-one.... read more
My child is about to graduate from the Field School after starting in middle school, and it has been everything that we hoped for and more – an excellent education in a warm and caring atmosphere, without the pressure-cooker environment found in other schools. Field’s emphasis on teacher-student relationships is not something that it simply pays lip service to; it really is the heart of a Field education. After every parent-teacher conference, my husband (who is not easily impressed) would say to me, “Wow, they really unders... read more
The Field School's environment is like no other school's. Everyone, whether they are a student, teacher, or faculty member, knows one another. It's a very close-knit community which is something I love very much about this school. I got to meet so many interesting and diverse people which made my experience at The Field School something that I'll never forget.
Field’s unique classes gives students a lot of opportunity to shine academically and get into great colleges. However, because of the schools small size there are many cliques who only associate among themselves. It is a great progressive school but there is little to no socioeconomic and political diversity among students.
The Field School is an amazing college preparatory school, and I have spent 7 years there. Being a senior it has set me up for college very well. The support in the college process is unmatched, and I'm very grateful. I've made amazing friends and developed many close relationships with teachers that I believe would extend long after my graduation. The teacher support is unchallenged and teachers truly care for the well being of their students. However, since it is a small private school we do not see a lot of diversity. I b... read more
