We have had a child with emotional/mental illness attend this school in years past and found the guidance staff and teachers to be very accommodating in dealing with issues that arose without having a negative impact on her self esteem. The school is highly rated for its academics. When our oldest son was interviewing at a college in a nearby state, he was told they would rather have a C student from Oak Ridge High School than an A student from most surrounding high schools.

I love this school with all of my heart and i'm very proud that I had the opportunity to graduate from Oak Ridge High School. While at times it was very challenging and I sometimes felt that it was a struggle to get through, I now realize that this school helped me prepare myself for college and the knowledge I've gained from Oak Ridge has helped me greatly overall.

I love all the AP classes at this school. A majority of teachers at this school are willing to stay after school to help and even encourage students to come in for extra help. The teachers here are professionals in the sense that they have had real world experience and haven't just taught their whole careers (several of my own teachers have written books, worked in national labs, etc).

Most of my math teachers that I had offered after school sessions at least once a week for extra help. I always attended and so did many other students in my classes. The teachers normally offered extra credit so it really benefited the students with the extra points and extra help. Teachers would also always offer extra credit with assignments as well. The teachers really are understanding if you need any help or are struggling behind in class. They made themselves very approachable and easy to talk to if you had an issue. ... read more

Dress codes were a little unfair because I have been called to the office one time for wearing running shorts that were supposedly too short. Everyone has their opinion on shorts being too short but I have seen many girls wear shorter shorts than I have worn to school and I never understood why they never got in trouble. I'm not sure we ever really had detention so I don't think it's that prominent in my school. In and out of school suspension is very prominent though. I think there could be more options. They had a lot of the same things almost every day. There were variety but they need to add more so the students don't get tired of it. All the food was pretty great though. Time wise could be extended a little longer. One time I was in the line so long that once I sat down I only had five minutes of lunch left.

I was on the Recycling & Social Committee. I helped recycle the school's recycle bins every Friday. I also helped set up the homecoming dance. There are a lot of other clubs to join such as the Harry Potter club for those interested in Harry Potter. There were so many clubs one could join. There was a robotics club for those interested in all that as well. Many students participated in sports as well & the sports teams were actually good too.
