The good part is definitely the education and connections with teachers. Everyone there wants you to succeed, I never met a staff member who WANTED me to fail. And the quality of education was awesome - I got accepted into an Ivy League school with a near full-ride scholarship with the help of my educators.
I enjoyed the school spirit and many of the classes were interesting and fun; however many of the teachers had an idea that all that mattered was grades and how well you did on the ACT. While pushing kids to be better is good there is a limit to being healthy and unhealthy.
The food could be better. The staff are extremely quick to help students and keep us on our two feet.
Overall, my experiences at ORHS have been overwhelmingly positive. There are countless opportunities for students curious about about STEM because the national labs are so close, and there is a high focus on STEM in the school's curriculum. Also, there's penty of opportunities to get involved in the community. The academics are pretty good, but the best thing about this school is the people you meet through clubs and other activities.
The maker space in our Oak Ridge High School Library is the best place to express your creativity side, or nerdy side while enjoying your time with friendly peers and teachers, but the librarian is the nicest librarian ever. I highly recommend not just the Maker Space , but the library also owns so many amazing genres, topics, and diverse book collection. I love this school so much, it is by far the best school I have gone to, and I hope that it keeps it's excellent work up!
I think personally I have had no problem with my school. I have been there for my whole high school career and all of my teachers have been great. Also there is a wide variety of classes and paths toward a career. They have done a good job to prepare me for collage.
I moved to Oak Ridge my freshman year right before Christmas break. Now that I have involved myself in sports and activities I do well but Oak Ridge was not a very inviting school.
My experience here academically wise was great. We learn things i don't think other high schools have a chance in Learning. We have A lot of programs that help us become ready for real life after school. But the school atmosphere is negative to me. Teachers pick and choose who they are understanding to. The dress code here is reasonable but like i said they pick and choose who they are going to dress code. The students here can be rude but that jus like any school. There's good teachers and there's teachers I'm not too fond ... read more
The best thing I would say about Oak Ridge High School is the extracurricular activities. You can find almost anything you want there if you look hard enough. As for what the school could improve upon, I suggest that the administration focuses less on sports and more on the welfare of the students. One example of this would be the food which is sometimes on the brink or has already expired.
Oak Ridge High School has a 4.1 star rating with 252 reviews.
