Teachers are above the standard. Many of the teachers have masters level of graduating with graduate level research in their area. My experience is that most teachers will stay before or after class and school for extra help.
Provides many options. Free to students are two tests in Junior and Senior year are career interest surveys/tests. The guidance through high does highly push University advanced education, but more and more they are pushing Tech pathways as good options, including the option to go through their paralell high school program next door to the main campus which is tech/trade-school oriented.
There are no cliques ("click" groups), mostly kids from AP classes hang out, kids from advanced placement hang out, and kids from any class hang out. Very rare is there bullying. The most diverse school in the South, with every continent of the world composing atleast 15% each.
School Facilities are on par to what a school needs. There is soccer, baseball, football, tennis, track and volleyball courts. The only thing they lack is a pool. The grounds are well kept. Resources are available for any teacher supported club.
Most any extracurrilar a student would like to start, there is a teacher waiting to support you. From sports to music, and from writing to psychology groups, there are pleanty of chances to broaden an individual student's curriculum.
This School was built in 1943, during WW2. Oak Ridge has people from across the country and overseas. It is Blue Ribbon School. The Culture and Diversity at Oak Ridge is very rich. Its not all just Caucasian and or African Americans. You have people from spain who can barely speak english, students from Burundi, Africa just endless faces from around the World.
Oak Ridge has many extracurriculars mainly in Sports. But, I have seen more clubs or extracurriculars that are created into students not only enjoying what interests them but also discuss issues that are going on in the world today. For example, GSA club (Gay Straight Alliance) , Environmental Club ( find out what is wrong with our environment, recently discussed why our government is messing with our food,water, air etc)
Although we have 2 resource "police" officers at our school, they cannot control everything. Fights and bullying still exists in the hallway. I believe that 100% of this cannot be eliminated, but my highschool does a great job at limiting it to the best of their ability.
I have had great teachers at my High School that are determined to try and teach the students to the best of their ability. A wide range of classes are offered varying from lower level classes for students planning on a vocational approach; and the upper echelon AP classes. I am worried that Tennessee state mandates interfering with the educational system will drive off some great teachers. My school has had many prestigous teacher retire the past two years with a lot to due with their new mandates.
