We moved into our home in Carolina Colours in November 2020. Our home was built by M.E. Maher Construction, Inc. We went into the contract agreement with a fair amount of trepidation as our previous builder went bankrupt, along the way taking our deposit on the home construction. We later learned that the cost he quoted would have been grossly understated should he have proceeded with the planned construction. Further, our home construction was set back by 6 months as we had to find a new builder and obtain a new loan. Needless to say, we were contemplating throwing in the towel and moving somewhere else. We decided to give it one more shot and met with Mike Maher and his wife, Jane. We are pleased to say that Mike Maher and Jane provided us with hope that we could actually build our retirement home and live in it sooner rather than later. Our experience with them was friendly, yet professional and, as importantly, the information exchange was accurate and timely. We started with only a plan for the house; we had only seen a picture up to that point. Along the way, the construction team (Mike Maher, Jane, Debbie, and Judy) kept us informed of the construction progress, even though we lived in Virginia for the initial phases. Mike Maher methodically talked us through all the anticipated costs, which turned out to be very accurate as they were priced by the subs based on the house specs. Mike Maher and Debbie kept us advised of any changes in costs as well as any projected costs should we decide to add options. Additionally, not long after we signed the contract, Mike Maher Construction, particularly Jane, accompanied us early-on to complete the materiel selection process. This foresight allowed us to finalize material requirements/costs in a timely manner with the result that not only were items like appliances, lighting, stone, lumber, etc. on site (therefore not slowing construction and eventual occupancy), but we also saved thousands of dollars as various materials costs, e.g., lumber, were locked in even as those costs rapidly escalated during the storm season. As a result, it enabled us to better manage our finances as they closely matched our expectations. The quality of the craftmanship and finished product were so much higher than we were expecting. We would highly recommend Mike Maher Construction to any future families looking to live in a fantastic home.
