Parents of LGBTQ children, be advised that this practice is not LGBTQ-friendly. During our first visit, one of the providers told me that he “would have advised against” allowing our trans son to transition at age 5 and that we should see a therapist (implying that our son has a treatable disorder). Our discharge paperwork for a routine well visit listed our son’s diagnosis as “gender identity disorder,” which was removed from the DSM nearly a decade ago.
