You can't beat the view, food is decent
First of all, this restaurant is in Cataumet Harbor. It is an absolutely gorgeous spot right on the water at the shipyard basin. The first thing you notice walking up is all the people outside drinking and sitting in wooden chairs taking in the scenery. The Chartroom has a window to order drinks outside, which is an insanely great idea. Although many of the people are waiting for tables, there are a great number of groups just there to drink and share some laughs before going onto their boats or heading to the next establishment. Once inside it feels like a very old setting complete with mildew smell, and piano set right in the middle of the place. Let's face it, this place has probably not spent any money on it's appearance since the 1980's when it got a fresh coat of paint. But, guess what, it works and is really a part of this place's charm - the authentic New England feel. Although the men's bathroom is actually pretty nasty and foul smelling. We almost always eat out on the enclosed porch, which usually has it's plastic window flaps up so that you can get an unfiltered look at all of the boats and surrounding houses on the water. The food is mostly unspectacular at best, and is definitely overpriced. It is very kid friendly with plenty of choices that will agree with most of the young appetites. They do just about everything fairly well, with seafood being the staple, it's just that nothing stands out as great. The best time to come is at the end of the season when they have a blowout party to get rid of all of the booze and leftover food on the premises as this is a seasonal restaurant. At that time the lobster prices are cut in half, back down to reasonable.
Bottom-line is to come here on date night and have a great time with some drinks and maybe a few appetizers.
Service is mostly kids who are here for the season, and they seem to do a very good job with a good knowledge of both the menu and specials.
Parking is dicey at best with a vastly undersized marina parking lot. Chances are that on a busy day you will be parked halfway down the road and left with a 5+ minute walk to the door.
